Constable saves the life of a baby

A constable, Rick Buys was recognized as a hero by a family after he revived a newborn.

The mother of the newborn was grocery shopping at the Real Canadian Superstore along with her two children – a two-year-old daughter and a six-week-old Evan.

While in the parking lot, Evan started to foam at the mouth and turned into a shade of blue. His heart appeared to have stopped beating.

Buys was conducting a traffic stop in the area when he heard the 911 call come across the radio. He quickly left to attend to the scene. As he pulled into the parking lot of the store, he was greeted by a frantic mother holding her child.

Buys placed Evan on the back seat in his police cruiser and noticed that the child was not breathing and had no pulse. It was then that he started CPR. Upon the arrival of the ambulance, Evan started to get his color back. He was soon coughing and started to cry. The baby was transported to a hospital and later taken to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he underwent several tests.
