A 16-year old Ottawa boy was revived with an AED. The rapid action by witnesses were instrumental in the survival of the boy. The quick action in delivering CPR and using a public defibrillator was essential.
Importance of defibrillators
The boy collapsed from a seizure while playing basketball at a school in Orleans. The boy went into cardiac arrest as a result. The witnesses started CPR right away and restored his heart with just a single shock from a public defibrillator.
The boy was transferred to a healthcare facility for further treatment. According to the Ottawa paramedics, the early use of the defibrillator was instrumental in the survival of the boy.
Importance of AEDs
When a defibrillator or AED is promptly used during emergencies, it can save a life. The increasing availability of the device significantly improves the chances of survival especially with heart-related emergencies.
