Proper care of non-medical cloth masks during COVID-19 pandemic

When using a non-medical cloth mask, avoid touching your face. From the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, people are wearing a variety of masks, from medical masks to cloth face coverings in public areas.

It is a known fact that the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads from droplets when infected individuals cough, sneeze, or expel droplets when they are in close contact with others.

This is where physical distancing enters the picture and must be strictly observed along with self-isolation. As individuals, washing hands, covering the mouth when coughing, and avoid touching the face must be observed during the pandemic.

Medical masks and N95 respirators must be reserved for healthcare workers. It is their job to provide care for those who are sick and having the right protective equipment is important.

Using non-medical cloth masks or face covering can keep your own droplets out of the air and off surfaces. Although they are helpful in containing your own droplets, they will not protect you from COVID-19, nor is wearing one required of you if you can keep a safe distance from others. Even if you are wearing cloth masks, it is still important to observe physical distancing and self-isolation measures.

For those who decide to wear a non-medical cloth mask or face covering, avoid touching the face when using one. The cloth masks should be washed regularly and avoid sharing it with others.
