A volunteer firefighter named Cole Makysmytz found the missing 11 year old lying on the snow. The girl was still conscious after she collapsed face-first in the snow. He immediately provided first aid on the girl.
Timely intervention
Makysmytz a volunteer firefighter from Foam Lake Saskatchewan heard about a missing 11-year-old girl. He was off-duty at that time and he knew he had to do something to help look for the little girl.
I saw police cars taking off from different directions from this town in Foam Lake. The police have received a call that a girl is missing from her Bankend home at about 5 in the afternoon. The small village is about 200 kilometers southeast of Saskatoon.
According to the policemen, the 11 year old girl is sick and staying at home. While her mother was not around in the house, he went out and wandered away around the time from 3 to 5 in the afternoon. Her mother began looking for her and saw footprints heading west from the house. Her daughter could not be found.
The firefighter was not involved in the search party but carefully watchful for any sign of the girl as he was driving home in his truck together with his two children. He noticed a trail on the field. At first, he taught it might be the footprints of a moose or a deer or something. He came closer to the footprints, and he thought it could be the footprints of the little girl because it was so small.
They followed the footprints in his truck, and one of his kids shouted that they saw something black ahead. They drove up there and saw the little girl, lying and her face down on the snow.
It was already 7:40 in the evening when the girl was found. She had walked about six and a half kilometers from her home. He immediately checked on the girl and she was still breathing. He transferred the girl to the truck and provided first aid on her. Paramedics arrived and brought the girl immediately to the hospital for further treatment.
The 11 year old girl is now recovering from the hospital after treated for body injuries and hypothermia after exposure to the cold.
