The driver of the pick-up involved in the collision performed first aid until help arrived on the scene. An elderly man died after being hit by a vehicle in Chilliwack.
Collision on the road
The 78-year old was riding a bicycle at Cheam Ave. and Young Rd. when he was struck by a pick-up truck. The 26-year old driver of the pick-up truck who hit him stopped right away to help.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and performed first aid until the arrival of the BC Paramedics. The Chilliwack Fire Department also responded and the incident occurred directly beside their fire hall. RCMP shortly arrived after and blocked off the traffic in the southbound lane for several hours.
The body of the man was on scene for several hours as RCMP awaited the coroner. The body was only partly covered by a white blanket during these hours and the standard yellow tarp used in fatalities was not available. A purple bicycle sat at the side of the road by the scene, clearly damaged in the crash.
