Clarenville First Responder Receives Life-Saving Award After Reviving Colleague at Hebron GBS Site
A Clarenville man has been formally recognized for his heroic actions that helped save a colleague’s life at the Hebron Gravity Base Structure site in Bull Arm. Adrian Tarrant, along with fellow responders Jamie Budden and Ashley Perham, received the prestigious St. John Ambulance Life-Saving Award during a ceremony held at the Anglican Cathedral in St. John’s.
The award, presented by Lieutenant Governor Frank Fagan, honours individuals whose skill, bravery, and rapid response directly contributed to saving a life.

A Heroic Rescue on the Job
The incident took place in October 2015 when an unconscious worker was found unresponsive at the Hebron GBS site.
Budden was first to respond and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Moments later, Tarrant and Perham arrived after receiving an urgent call over the radio. All three were trained members of the site’s emergency response team.
Working together, they continued CPR, used an automated external defibrillator (AED), and initiated an IV line. After the second shock from the AED, the man regained a pulse and was transported by ambulance to a nearby medical facility.
Their quick thinking, teamwork, and strong first aid skills were credited with saving the man’s life.

“I’ll Look at That Certificate for the Rest of My Life”
Despite being honoured, Tarrant humbly acknowledged that the rescue was not about recognition:
“I’ll look at that certificate now for the rest of my life. Not for myself, but because I’ll know I gave that individual and their family more time.”
He also emphasized that the lifesaving effort was truly shared:
“One person cannot do it all.”
Their success reinforces how essential proper emergency response training is in critical moments.
Years of Service and Training Put Into Action
In addition to his emergency response role at Bull Arm, Tarrant has also served as a firefighter in Clarenville for more than seven years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to helping others.
He further noted:
“It more so shows that the appropriate training and knowledge… it works.”
This incident showcases how training empowers responders—and everyday people—to act decisively during emergencies.
