Driver Fled Scene, Later Arrested

Witnesses say the driver briefly paused after bystanders shouted at him but then fled the scene. A Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) employee and another passerby followed the truck and provided police with updates on its location.

Officers later found the truck near South Kingsway and Park Lawn Road, where the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was arrested shortly after following a brief chase. Police identified the suspect as a 24-year-old man, though no immediate charges were announced.

Victim Transported to Hospital With Serious Injuries

Toronto Paramedic Services described the woman’s injuries as “very serious.” She was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital with significant head and leg injuries. Police later confirmed that while her injuries were severe, they were considered non-life-threatening.

Bystanders and TTC Worker Provide Critical First Aid

Before paramedics arrived, a TTC employee and nearby bystanders provided immediate first aid. Police said a tourniquet was applied to the woman’s leg to control heavy bleeding, and there were signs of fractures.

Sgt. Alex Crews praised the response, noting that quick action by people on scene played an important role in stabilizing the victim.

One witness described the scene as emotional but reassuring, saying it was encouraging to see so many people step in to help while emergency crews were on the way.

Investigation Ongoing

Police temporarily closed surrounding roads while investigating the incident. Investigators are still working to determine traffic signal conditions and are asking witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage from the area to contact Traffic Services.
