Florida Woman and Child Killed in Snowmobile Accident Near Golden: A Reminder of Why Emergency Training Matters
A tragic snowmobile accident near Golden, B.C., has claimed the lives of a 30-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl from Miami, Florida. The incident took place Wednesday on the North Bench Trail, where the pair were participating in a guided tour.

What Happened on the Trail
RCMP confirm that the woman and child were riding together on the same snowmobile as part of a group of 10 guests touring with Rocky Mountain Riders Snowmobile Tours and Rentals. The company, which has operated for 14 years without a fatal incident, identified the two as mother and stepdaughter. Other close family members were also on the tour.
According to a statement from the company, the crash occurred when the snowmobile veered off the marked tour trail. Staff immediately began CPR and emergency first aid while waiting for search and rescue teams. Unfortunately, when responders arrived, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Conditions Were Considered Safe
Tour officials described the route as a “gentle trail” suitable for beginners, using some of the company’s lowest-powered machines. Guides were positioned at the front and back of the group, and no steep or hazardous terrain was involved.
Despite these precautions, no one witnessed the moment the woman left the trail, and RCMP continue to investigate. The BC Coroners Service is also determining the cause of death and whether any safety recommendations may follow.

Staff members responded immediately with CPR and emergency assistance. While these efforts were not successful in this case, rapid CPR remains one of the most critical factors in survival during trauma or cardiac arrest.
