Victim of a snowmobile accident receives CPR

A Nanaimo man died despite delivery of CPR after he and his snowmobile fell from a hardened mass of snow. The incident occurred near Whistler’s Mt. Callaghan.

The Whistler RCMP responded to a call at Mount Callaghan on a report about a snowmobile who stopped on a cornice before it collapsed. The man and his snowmobile fell around 75 meters and partially buried.

Rescue on the mountain

The Whistler Search and Rescue along with a doctor joined the search of the area by helicopter. Other snowmobilers in the area assisted in digging out the man and performed CPR.

According to the statement released by Staff Sgt. Paul Hayes, despite the efforts of all involved, the man was declared dead at the site. The cause of death was not yet confirmed but it does not seem suspicious.
