Scarborough High-Rise Fire: Woman Found With Trauma After Being Pulled From Burning Apartment
A tragic early-morning fire in a Scarborough high-rise has renewed attention on the critical importance of emergency response and CPR training.
At 3:05 a.m., Toronto Fire crews were called to 25 Bay Mills Boulevard, near Warden and Sheppard Avenues, after flames were reported on the 18th floor of the apartment tower. When firefighters arrived, flames were already visible from the exterior of the building.
Firefighters Pull Victim From Fully Involved Unit
According to Capt. David Eckerman, one unit on the 18th floor was fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews entered the burning apartment and managed to retrieve a female resident from inside.
She was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.
Sources revealed to CP24 that the woman was discovered in a bathtub with obvious signs of trauma, prompting immediate concerns beyond the fire itself.

Police Investigating Death as Suspicious
Toronto police confirmed that both the fire and the woman’s death are being treated as suspicious. Homicide detectives have been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
Residents say police have been going door-to-door throughout the building to gather information. The building is equipped with multiple cameras—including in the lobby and elevators—which investigators are expected to review.
As of now, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unknown.
Firefighters Performed CPR While Rescuing Her
A resident who witnessed the aftermath reported seeing a firefighter performing CPR on the woman as she was being wheeled out on a stretcher. This immediate action is a powerful reminder of how crucial CPR can be in life-and-death situations.
The Importance of CPR and First Aid Training
Emergencies happen suddenly and without warning. In critical moments—whether due to medical events, accidents, or fires—bystander intervention can significantly increase a victim’s chance of survival.
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) helps maintain blood flow and oxygen to vital organs until advanced care arrives. When paired with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), survival rates can rise dramatically in cases of cardiac arrest.
In a high-rise emergency, factors like smoke inhalation, heat, and delayed access to victims can make early CPR even more vital.
