Emergency Response at Arnold Crescent

York Regional Police say the incident happened Friday afternoon around 4:45 p.m. at a home on Arnold Crescent. Members of Central York Fire Services were the first to arrive. Sgt. John Loughry confirmed that one firefighter immediately dove into the pool, pulled the 20-year-old woman out, and began CPR on the poolside until paramedics took over.

The woman was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition. While her current status has not been confirmed, police say “life-saving measures are continuing.” Her next of kin have been notified.

A Child’s Brave Attempt to Help

Insp. Alvaro Almeida told CBC Toronto that the young girl who called 911 also attempted to rescue the babysitter before first responders arrived. Due to her age, police are not releasing further details, but emphasize that her quick actions played a critical role in getting help on time.

Treated as an Accident — No Signs of Foul Play

Police say they are treating the incident as an accident. There was no party happening at the home, alcohol is not believed to be involved, and foul play is not suspected. It remains unclear how the babysitter entered the pool.

Why CPR Training Matters in Emergencies

This incident shows how quickly a normal day can turn into a life-threatening emergency. Before professional help arrives, early CPR can significantly increase a person’s chance of survival.
