Emergencies Happen Fast — Why First Aid Training Matters

Incidents like this are a clear reminder of how quickly emergencies can unfold and how vital it is for bystanders to know how to help before paramedics arrive.

Gunshot wounds—even those not immediately life-threatening—can cause rapid blood loss. A trained individual can:

  • Control bleeding using direct pressure or a tourniquet

  • Help prevent shock and monitor breathing

  • Keep the victim calm and safe

  • Communicate helpful details to 9-1-1 dispatchers

Even basic first aid skills can make a life-saving difference.
