The 4 work colleagues who saved the life of Edmonton man were recognized by the Emergency Medical Services officials. For Manny Rodriguez, he considers himself a lucky guy.
Work colleagues on the rescue
Before work started, the long-time employee at All Weather Windows was laughing and chatting with fellow employees. According to Rodriguez, the shift supervisor in the shipping and receiving department, he was getting ready for his shift and next thing he knew, he woke up in a hospital 3 days later. He could not recall anything that happened in the hours after his heart attack.
When he struck the floor, Dale Moan ran to the health and safety office. Nilos Korodimas, Rebekah Butler and nurse Beth Marsh rushed to help. They assessed the situation, obtained a defibrillator and attempted to jump-start Rodriguez’s heart. In less than 10 minutes later, the ambulance and paramedics arrived at the company’s warehouse.
Rodriguez credits his co-workers for keeping him alive. He is not sure if he can repay them for what they did.
Availability of defibrillators
The increasing availability of defibrillators has significantly improved the chances of survival from cardiac emergencies. Using an automated external defibrillator (AED) is easy and you can simply follow the prompts of the device.
