Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Laval: A Reminder of the Importance of Emergency Preparedness
A tragic incident occurred on Saturday night in Laval’s Chomedey neighbourhood, where a 45-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing Samson Blvd. near 4th Street. The collision, reported by the Montreal Gazette ( Pedestrian struck by car and killed in Laval ), took place around 10:30 p.m. in an area with limited lighting.
Police stated that the man was crossing between two intersections when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old motorist. When officers arrived on scene, they immediately began performing CPR in an attempt to save his life. Sadly, despite their efforts, the man was pronounced deceased before he could be transported to the hospital.
Investigators reported that the driver did not see the pedestrian due to poor visibility, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Understanding the Impact of Immediate Action
Incidents like this are heartbreaking, but they also highlight how crucial those first minutes after an emergency truly are. While CPR cannot reverse severe trauma, it is a lifesaving measure in countless other emergencies—including sudden cardiac arrest—where bystander intervention can dramatically increase survival rates.
Emergency responders do exceptional work, but often, the first person on scene is a bystander. Being trained means you are ready to act when every second matters.
Why CPR and First Aid Training Matters
Emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere—on the road, at home, or in public. Learning CPR gives you the confidence and ability to:
Provide immediate, life-sustaining care until professional help arrives
Stay calm and take the right action during high-stress situations
Potentially save the life of someone you love—or a stranger
