How the Incident Happened

Ridge Meadows RCMP say the collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Lougheed Highway and Harris Road. Witnesses reported that the pedestrian stepped into the eastbound lanes while attempting to flag down a taxi when he was struck by a five-tonne box truck.

The crash happened in low-visibility early morning conditions, which RCMP say can make pedestrian safety even more challenging.

Investigation and Safety Reminder

The 22-year-old Port Coquitlam man was transported to hospital in critical condition. RCMP confirm that the truck driver remained on scene and is cooperating fully with investigators.

Sgt. Brenda Gresiuk urged both drivers and pedestrians to take extra care, especially as darker days and poor weather reduce visibility. She also expressed gratitude to the witnesses who stepped in to provide first aid before paramedics arrived.
