Senior Revived on l’If Road in La Pêche

Around 6 p.m. on September 15, officers from the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais responded to an urgent call about a man in cardio-respiratory arrest on l’If Road in La Pêche.

A neighbour — a trained nurse — had already begun CPR when police arrived. Officers quickly took over chest compressions and deployed their automated external defibrillator (AED). After delivering a shock, they were able to revive the man.

Paramedics arrived moments later and transported him to the hospital in Wakefield.

Two uniformed officers perform CPR and apply an AED on a training dummy during a first aid drill.
Police demonstrate CPR & AED use — just like the real-life rescues in West Quebec where quick action saved both a toddler and a senior.

Police praised the team effort, stating:
“Hats off to the responders and a speedy recovery to the victim.”

A Lifeless Toddler Saved Just Weeks Earlier

On August 11, officers were among the first responders at the Gatineau Park visitor centre in Chelsea to help a 2-year-old child with no pulse and no breathing. The boy had been playing with his family when he complained of stomach pain and suddenly collapsed.

Police immediately used their AED before paramedics arrived. The child regained a pulse on the way to CHEO, and his condition improved significantly upon arrival.

AED Use on the Rise in the Region

These two rescues are part of a bigger trend.
MRC des Collines police had already used defibrillators 13 times in 2018—more than the total of 10 uses in all of 2017.

This increase reinforces the importance of having trained responders nearby during emergencies.

Why CPR and AED Training Matters

Both incidents demonstrate one clear fact:
🩺 Early CPR and quick AED use save lives.

Whether it’s a neighbour, a bystander, or police officers, trained individuals make a life-saving difference long before an ambulance arrives.

If you want to learn how to respond in emergencies, consider taking a certified CPR and AED course.
