Man serving life sentence for gang-related murder dies in Abbotsford prison

A 39-year old man was found unresponsive on Boxing Day. A man who was serving a life sentence for a gang-related murder died on Boxing Day at Pacific Institution in Abbotsford.

Timely assistance

According to assistant warden Claude Demers, Gurwinder Mann, 39-years old was found unresponsive in the institution’s hospital. The staff members quickly performed CPR and emergency services were called but Mann could not be resuscitated. The root cause of his death was not yet released.

Mann started to serve his sentence in May 2003 for first-degree murder of Gurpreet Sohi who was shot in his Delta basement.

According to Demers, all cases that involve the death of an inmate, the police and coroner were notified. The Correctional Service Canada will conduct further review of the circumstances of the incident.
