Man Injured by Machete and Gunfire During Struggle With Thief in Red Deer

A violent confrontation in Red Deer left a young homeowner injured after he attempted to fight off an armed intruder who had broken into his property, according to RCMP.

The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. in the Anders neighbourhood, when a 23-year-old man surprised a suspect inside his garage. Police say the intruder was armed with a machete and a small-calibre firearm, and a struggle quickly followed.

During the altercation, the victim sustained machete-related injuries and a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the back.

Suspect Description

RCMP described the suspect as being in his early 20s, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with a sunken face and black hair falling just above his shoulders. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing a black hat, a blue turtleneck compression shirt under a black zip-up hoodie, baggy faded blue jeans, and skate shoes.

Possible Link to Another Red Deer Shooting

Police are also investigating whether this incident is connected to a separate shooting that occurred the day before in downtown Red Deer. In that case, another individual suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot with a small-calibre firearm in an alley.

RCMP continue to investigate both incidents.
