Man Dead After Bus Crash Near Canada Place

A devastating accident in Vancouver’s busiest tourist district claimed one life and left two others injured on Sunday morning, August 13, 2017. What Happened

Police reported that three people were transported to hospital following the collision, two of them initially suffering life-threatening injuries. Later that afternoon, authorities confirmed that a 49-year-old man had died from his injuries. A 15-year-old girl sustained minor injuries, while an older man remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Witnesses said the bus—believed to be a tourist shuttle heading toward the Capilano Suspension Bridge—had just begun moving at low speed when pedestrians suddenly appeared in the roadway near a silver Ford SUV parked a short distance ahead. The SUV’s trunk was open as luggage was being loaded.

Despite the driver slamming on the brakes, the bus was unable to stop in time.

Chaotic Scene and Immediate Response

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as bystanders rushed to help those struck by the bus. Emergency services arrived quickly, and firefighters and paramedics worked to stabilize the bus while passengers and the driver remained on board.

First responders were seen performing CPR on one man at the scene before he was rushed to hospital. Despite these life-saving efforts, the victim later succumbed to his injuries.
