Man ends up with serious spinal cord injury

A 28-year old man was given CPR after a diving accident. Sadly, the man sustained a serious spinal cord injury.

The man was staying at a friend’s cottage. According to his sister, the man struck his head on the sandy bottom of the lake after diving into the water. He jammed his neck and it cracked his C5 vertebra, completely crushing it. It also cracked into six pieces and then his C4 and C6 got cracked. The spinal cord was compressed.

Two of his friends found him floating in the water and were able to revive him. One of his friends just learned CPR at his work. He performed CPR which helped release the water in his lungs and restore his breathing. The man was rushed to a hospital where he stayed in the ICU and later transferred to a hospital in Toronto.
