Lyft, Uber reveal COVID-19 protocols

The well-known ride-hailing services revealed protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 such as sanitizing and washing hands.

Uber and Lyft are requiring drivers, couriers, and passengers to wear masks a part of the new set of protocols aimed at containing the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada.

Uber which is a San Francisco-based giant stated that drivers could not pick up customers until they have verified they are wearing a mask via photo-recognition software built into the Uber app.

When booking a ride, passengers will be advised to use a mask, sanitize hands before and after the trip, sit in the back seat and open a window if possible.

As for Lyft, the company is also requiring all drivers and passengers to “self-certify” that they will wear a face mask, free from symptoms, and will follow all local, provincial and national health official rules.

Both companies’ drivers will also agree to a series of terms promising that they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms, have thoroughly disinfected their vehicle, and have washed their hands.

Passengers and drivers can cancel rides if the person operating or entering the vehicle does not use a mask and if someone removes a mask partway during the trip and will have the option to inform UBER about the removal when they rate the ride.

Passengers are not allowed to sit in front seats and no more than 3 passengers are allowed in the vehicle for Uber X and XL rides.

When booking a ride, passengers will be advised to use a mask, sanitize hands before and after the trip, sit in the back seat and open a window if possible.
