Laval mother pushes Indigo to change its policy of face coverings

Indigo stated that it has changed its policy to allow face mask exemptions in Quebec stores after an incident was brought to their attention.

Voula Constantinacos shared that she was pleased with the company’s change of heart. But earlier in the day, she stated that she was still reeling from what she claims happened when she brought her son to her local Indigo store.

She shared that her husband took their 8-year-old to buy a book and a toy, but was refused entry. The child was under the age of 10 and has autism.

According to the province’s regulations, children under the age of 10 do not have to wear a face mask. Those with special needs, including autism, are also exempt.

The mother shared that she explained this to both employee and the store manager but was told that Indigo’s policy is that a face mask is required inside the store for anyone over the age of two.

Indigo stated that it has changed its policy to allow face mask exemptions in Quebec stores after an incident was brought to their attention.

After reaching out to Quebec’s ministry of health and social services to inquire about the rules about masks in private businesses, a spokesperson stated that the ministry cannot intervene with an operator to force it to accept a person who does not wear a face covering.
