Laval Man, 35, Drowns at Yamaska Provincial Park

A 35-year-old man from Laval tragically drowned Monday evening at Yamaska Provincial Park in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. The incident occurred in the Choinière Reservoir, a man-made body of water near Roxton Pond.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), emergency services were called to the park at approximately 6:00 p.m. after reports of a man missing in the water. Police said the man had been swimming with at least two other people when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface.

After several minutes, the man was pulled from the water unconscious. First responders attempted resuscitation efforts before transporting him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Investigators and the SQ’s forensic identification service have been assigned to the case as police continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
