Norfolk OPP Looking for Good Samaritan Who Helped Save Man’s Life

Norfolk County OPP are hoping to find and thank a Good Samaritan whose quick actions helped save a man’s life in Simcoe.

On Wednesday evening, around 5:53 p.m., police and paramedics were called to a home on Robinson Street in Simcoe for reports of a man on the ground, unresponsive and without a pulse.

When an officer arrived, they found a bystander already performing CPR. The officer took over chest compressions, and the man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where his pulse was successfully regained. He was later transferred to a Hamilton-area hospital for further treatment.

Police say the Good Samaritan’s early CPR was instrumental in saving the man’s life. They are asking that person to contact the Norfolk County OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122 so officers can thank them directly.

This incident is a powerful reminder that immediate CPR from a bystander can mean the difference between life and death.

Why Bystander CPR Matters

Most cardiac arrests happen outside of a hospital, often at home or in public settings. When this occurs:

  • The heart stops pumping effectively

  • Oxygen stops reaching the brain

  • Each passing minute lowers the chance of survival

Early CPR helps maintain blood flow to the brain and vital organs until paramedics arrive. It buys time—and in many cases, saves lives. In this situation, the Good Samaritan’s willingness to act immediately gave first responders a real chance to revive the patient.

Anyone can learn these skills. You don’t need to be a medical professional—you just need training and the confidence to step in.
