A 12-year old girl revived her 2-year old brother. He was found unresponsive in the Washington state family’s septic tank.
According to East Pierce Fire and Rescue Chief Bud Becker, the mother of the children was able to move the boy out of the tank but ended up stuck in the process, so the girl called 911.
Prompt action
The dispatchers instructed the girl on how to provide CPR to her brother. Becker added that the boy was conscious upon the arrival of the emergency team at the home in the Tacoma suburb of Edgewood.
The boy was transported to a Tacoma healthcare facility for treatment. It remains uncertain how long the boy was in the tank or how he got inside.
Becker encourages residents to ensure that access points to tanks are properly secured to prevent similar incidents.
