What happened?
According to RCMP, the 26-year-old Vernon resident was found around 11 p.m. wandering along Pandosy Street with significant blood loss. Witnesses noticed his condition and acted quickly, providing first aid while waiting for emergency responders.
When RCMP officers arrived, they applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg to help stem severe bleeding—an essential step that can slow blood loss long enough for paramedics to take over.
Cpl. Jesse O’Dongahey reported that the victim was drifting in and out of consciousness and was unable to fully cooperate with investigators due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Where did the assault occur?
Initial findings show that the stabbing took place inside an apartment suite in the 1900 block of Pandosy Street. Investigators believe the victim left the residence searching for help before collapsing outside.
Serious crimes investigators continue to follow several leads and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Why first aid matters in situations like this
Severe bleeding is one of the most time-sensitive medical emergencies. Without immediate action, a victim can lose enough blood to become unconscious—or even die—within minutes. The quick response of a witness, followed by RCMP officers applying a tourniquet, played a crucial role in giving the victim a fighting chance.
Whether the emergency involves a loved one, a coworker, or a stranger on the street, having basic first aid knowledge can make all the difference. Skills such as:
-
Controlling severe bleeding
-
Applying pressure and using a tourniquet
-
Recognizing signs of shock
-
Performing CPR or using an AED when needed
-
Acting confidently during high-stress emergencies
can help sustain someone until trained medical professionals arrive.
