Emergency Crews Respond to Reported Fire

According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services Deputy Chief Scott MacDonald,

two teenage children were pulled from the house and required urgent medical intervention.

CPR Delivered at the Scene

The fire began in the kitchen and was largely contained to that area. However, smoke had spread throughout the home, and the teens were found upstairs, where conditions quickly became life-threatening.

“They both were getting CPR at the time,” MacDonald said, adding that the teenagers were transported to hospital in critical condition.

This incident highlights why immediate CPR can be the difference between life and death, especially in emergencies involving smoke inhalation, oxygen deprivation, or cardiac arrest. Learning these skills through certified training—such as CPR and AED courses offered by Calgary First Aid—can empower bystanders to act confidently before paramedics arrive.

Family Members and First Responders Affected

The children’s father was treated at the scene for carbon monoxide poisoning, while their mother was unharmed. Up to a dozen emergency vehicles were present as Edmonton Fire Rescue Services and EMS paramedics were later joined by Edmonton Police Service officers.

Fire crews arrived at 9:32 p.m., and the fire was brought under control by 9:52 p.m. One firefighter sustained a rolled ankle during the response.

Deputy Chief MacDonald praised the crews’ efforts, stating, “It was a very good job by the crews; they worked very hard to get people out.”
