Emergency crews responded to Poplar Point, on the northeast side of Lac La Biche Lake, after family and friends lost sight of two children—ages 13 and 8—when strong winds strengthened and a storm moved across the lake.
Search teams from RCMP and Fish and Wildlife located the 13-year-old first. He was unharmed and taken to hospital for assessment. The eight-year-old was found shortly after, unresponsive. CPR was performed immediately before he was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
This heartbreaking incident is a reminder of how quickly conditions on the water can change—and how vital quick action is during an emergency. Early CPR and timely access to an AED significantly increase the chances of survival during cardiac arrest.
