A Race Against Time
According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services Deputy Chief Scott MacDonald, firefighters arrived at 9:32 p.m. and quickly searched the home’s upper level where the teens were found. The fire originated in the kitchen and was contained there, but heavy smoke made the rescue challenging and dangerous.
Both teens required immediate CPR on scene before being rushed to hospital. MacDonald emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “It’s not looking good.”
This incident highlights how crucial fast, effective CPR can be in a life-threatening emergency.

Extensive Emergency Response
As many as a dozen emergency vehicles responded, including Fire Rescue Services, EMS paramedics, and Edmonton Police Service officers. The father was treated for carbon monoxide poisoning, while the mother escaped without injury.
One firefighter suffered a rolled ankle during the rescue. Fire crews brought the situation under control by 9:52 p.m., just 20 minutes after arriving. MacDonald praised the responders, noting:
“It was a very good job by the crews; they worked very hard to get people out.”
