Emergency crews arrived shortly after 1 p.m., where Toronto paramedics immediately began CPR in an effort to revive the man. He was transported to hospital under an emergency run with help from police, but despite the rapid response and resuscitation attempts, he later succumbed to his injuries. Const. David Hopkinson of the Toronto Police Service said the victim’s injuries were “far too severe” to survive.
Driver Located After Failing to Remain at the Scene
Police say the driver of the truck initially failed to remain at the scene, prompting an urgent search for both the vehicle and the individual involved. Thanks to information from witnesses, officers located the driver, who is now cooperating with the investigation.
Sgt. Brett Moore noted that investigators are still determining whether the driver was aware they had struck a pedestrian. Because the vehicle involved was a large commercial truck, this remains a central part of the ongoing investigation.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses who may have additional information.
