Bleeding Break-In Suspect Dies After Police Confrontation: CPR Efforts Delivered at the Scene
A fatal confrontation between police and an agitated, severely injured break-in suspect in Coquitlam is now under review by B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO). The incident was first reported by CTV News and the original article can be read here:

Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene before the man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
What Led to the Confrontation
According to RCMP, officers received multiple 911 calls about a distressed man attempting to break into homes along Balmoral Drive. One caller reported that a homeowner had been confronted by a man carrying a large stick, raising immediate safety concerns.
As additional calls came in, police responded to another break-in at a nearby home. When officers entered the residence, they discovered the suspect with severe, potentially life-threatening injuries. IIO BC later confirmed the man was “severely injured and bleeding” when located.
Police Actions and Use of Force
Police attempted de-escalation, but it was unsuccessful. RCMP stated that a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), commonly known as a Taser, was deployed but appeared to have no effect. A physical confrontation followed before officers were able to take the man into custody.
Shortly afterward, the suspect went into medical distress.
CPR Provided Before Transport
Emergency responders immediately delivered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an effort to stabilize the man. CPR is a critical skill that can sustain blood flow and improve survival chances during cardiac emergencies.

The man was transported to hospital following CPR efforts and was declared dead shortly before midnight.
Investigation Underway
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is now determining whether police actions contributed to the man’s death. RCMP noted that no further details are expected until the investigation is complete.
