Dangers in the water
The BC Coroners Service is in the initial phase of the investigation of the drowning incident. There are no further details given at this time.
According to friends, the man was trying to recover a drifting boat last Tuesday when he went under the cold Chilliwack Lake.
Both the RCMP and CSAR were called but on Wednesday morning, the search was scaled back.
According to CSAR search manager Dan McAuliffe, it is sad for his parents and friends. His team conducted short-time searches and waded in chest high with masks and snorkels.
The SAR members found the fiberglass motorboat that the man was trying to retrieve around a kilometer away. This was the first boat-related rescue call from Chilliwack Lake that the CSAR members handled in a several years.
