An 8-year old died despite CPR after a canoe was swept away during a storm on Lac La Biche. The boy was canoeing with a 13-year old child when the storm moved in and the winds gained speed.
Watery ordeal
The family and friends lost sight of the canoe and called the police for assistance. The RCMP were called to the Poplar Point area on the eastern shore of the lake. The police searched the area with assistance from local Fish and Wildlife officers.
The 13-year old was found unharmed and transported to a healthcare facility for further examination. The 8-year old was found soon after. CPR was performed on the child but he later died in the hospital.
The RCMP are not releasing the identity of the child. The Lac La Biche Victim Services is aiding family and friends of the child who died.
