At Calgary First Aid we offer Heart and Stroke Foundation basic life support courses. The course is offered at both our northern and southern training locations and provides successful participants with a certificate valid for one year. Participants enrolled in this course will learn basic CPR, AED and resuscitation rescue skills. The length of the course is approximately 4.5 hours. This course is designed for individuals that work as healthcare professionals and are required to know how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants that successfully complete this course with receive Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation certification that is valid for 1 year. Recertifications are not available for this course. Participants may be required to renew certification at a earlier date based on workplace requirements. Participants that successfully complete the course will receive an email that provides access to the Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Provider ecard. This electronic proof of course completion is accessible online, can be downloaded or printed. Please ensure, when registering, that you input your correct email address. Certification provided by this course meets prerequisites for the ACLS and PALS programs in Calgary.
What Will I Learn In this Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support in Calgary?
Participants enrolled in this course will learn how to manage a variety of life-threatening emergencies including:
- When and how to perform high quality CPR for an adult
- When and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- How to become a part of the chain of survival
- How to effectively use barrier devices including bag-valve masks
- How to aid victims of partial and fully obstructed airways
- When and how to provide effective ventilation’s by using a barrier device.
These techniques / skills will be learned using the latest ILCOR guidelines and rescue techniques.
