Father saves the life of his son with timely delivery of CPR

A father who saved the life of his infant son with CPR skills urges others to learn basic first aid skills. The prompt delivery of life-saving measures is crucial in saving a life. A delay will significantly affect the outcome. The best way to be ready for emergencies is to enroll in first aid and CPR course.

The father recently finished a first aid workshop and later puts his life-saving skills into action. During an unexpected event, his 8-month old son ceases to breathe at their home on the Hebridean Island of Mull.

As the child turns blue, Alec Brown calls for an ambulance and performs CPR. After a moment, the child starts to cry. The father believes that the child is sick due to a viral infection.

As a member of the Tobermory RNLI’s lifeboat crew, Mr. Brown shares that he never expected this to happen. He made the decisions to enroll in CPR training course since he has a young family and residing in an island where medical care can be delayed. He made the right choice to undergo training which came in handy during the emergency.

When the child ceases to breathe, Mr. Brown went into an autopilot mode and quickly recalled from his training on what he had to do. He assessed the child if he was choking and if there is an obstruction in the airway before delivering CPR. In no time, the child started to breathe again.

The ambulance arrived on the scene after 20 minutes. If the father did not had training, the ending would be a different one.

Importance of CPR: Thin line between life and death

After the incident, the infant was airlifted to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The child was confined for 3 days where doctors conclude that the episode might be due to a viral infection.
