Two people died after a raft overturned on New Brunswick’s Miramichi River. According to RCMP Sgt. Brent Johnston, 8 friends were rafting down the river in Gray Rapids when it flipped.
Dangers in the water
Johnston added that 6 people were able to make it back to the shore on their own. A 29-year old woman from White Rapids was dragged out of the water by the first responders and CPR was administered. She was transported to a healthcare facility where she was later declared dead.
The body of a 55-year old man from White Rapids was also found shortly after. Foul play is not likely. According to Johnston, he does not believe that the current was flowing rapidly at the time of the incident, but an investigation is underway to figure out the root cause of why the raft overturned.
