Toronto Fire crews responded to the blaze shortly after 6 p.m., arriving to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building. Fire Chief Matthew Pegg reported that crews made an aggressive entry into the home for search and rescue operations.

During their search, firefighters discovered a man in the basement of the home. He was unresponsive and without vital signs when they brought him outside.
