Calgary First Aid: Woman Killed by Lawn Mower in Eastern Alberta Workplace Tragedy
A tragic workplace accident in eastern Alberta has claimed the life of a 21-year-old Saskatchewan woman, underscoring the serious risks involved in heavy equipment maintenance and the importance of emergency preparedness.

Bystander Acts Quickly After Discovering Woman Trapped
According to Sgt. Juan Huss of the Kitscoty RCMP, a man walking nearby noticed the woman trapped beneath a large tractor lawn mower around 2:30 p.m.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, he immediately ran across the street to the local fire station to seek help.
Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Maintenance Work Turns Fatal
Sgt. Huss explained that the woman had been performing maintenance work on the mower, which had been jacked up at the time.
“She was doing some maintenance work on that and it was jacked up and unfortunately she was underneath and it fell and pinned her under the tractor,” Huss said.
The heavy machinery collapsed while she was underneath, leaving her critically injured.
CPR Performed at the Scene
Fire crews began CPR immediately upon arrival and continued life-saving efforts until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived. Paramedics then took over care, but despite these efforts, the woman was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Her family has been notified, and authorities confirmed her name will not be released.
Investigation Underway
Police stated the death is not considered suspicious. However, because the incident occurred in a workplace setting, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety is investigating the fatality to determine whether safety procedures were followed and how similar incidents can be prevented.
