At approximately 5:15 p.m., police and Emergency Medical Services were called to a home in Lethbridge, about two hours south of Calgary. Family members discovered the child in the dugout and immediately attempted to help. Despite rapid resuscitation efforts by both relatives and first responders, the young girl was rushed to Chinook Regional Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy was scheduled in Calgary, and police confirmed that the death is not believed to be suspicious.
